Group E favourites Jordan and South Korea will meet on Match Day 2 at the AFC Asia Cup. Both nations won their respective tournament openers and this moved Jordan to the summit in the group ahead of second-placed Korea. The winner of this tie will advance to the knockout rounds with a game to spare. Jordan began the tournament with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Malaysia. They will hope to have the same momentum as they take on one of the favourites to emerge as continental champion. The West Asian country has struggled for form and before arriving for the tournament had won only once in nine outings. Seven of those matches had ended in defeat. Jordan were thumped 6-1 by Japan in a build-up game right before arriving in Qatar. The Chivalrous Ones are in the continental stage for the fifth time in their history. They have only once failed to qualify to the knockout rounds.

South Korea also began the tournament with a convincing victory. Jurgen Klinsmann’s men were 3-1 winners over Bahrain. The win continued their streak of winning their opening Asia Cup match to four tournaments. Korea are in red-hot form and currently have won their last seven matches. They should therefore arrive fully confident of booking their place in the knockout rounds after this match. Considering also that they haven’t lost to Jordan in the last five meetings and have won the last three. The Taegeuk Warriors have been crowned continental champions twice but not since 1960 have they won the crown. Korea are playing in their 15th Asia Cup and only once have they failed to make the knockout rounds.
