Jamaica vs Venezuela Prediction & Betting Tips - Copa America

by Ian John in Copa America Predictions

Football fans could be in for a treat on Sunday evening when Venezuela and Jamaica clash in the sweltering heat in Austin in Group B of the 2024 Copa America.

Fernando Batista’s Venezuela have been one of the tournament's surprise packages.

Winning both their opening two fixtures to qualify for the quarterfinals with a game to spare. The pressure is off La Vinotinto as they seek to confirm top spot in the group with a win or draw in this fixture.

Jamaica's manager, Heimir Hallgrimsson, has seen his side lose both their opening games to sit bottom of the group. The Reggae Boyz are eliminated from the competition, as even a win would not be enough to land second spot. Ecuador and Mexico face each other, and both have three points.

However pride is a potent motivator, but Venezuela will also want to top the group meaning this should be an intriguing contest on Sunday night.

Jamaica - Venezuela: Form Analysis

Venezuela will benefit from knowing their place in the quarterfinals is assured, while a draw would be enough to confirm top spot in Group B.

The South American side have lost just two of their last ten games, drawing four and winning four, including their two group games in this tournament. Victories have included wins over Chile and Paraguay, while they have picked up a hugely creditable 1-1 draw against Brazil in a World Cup Qualifier back in October.

Without a win in four games heading into the tournament, Venezuela beat Ecuador 2-1 in their opener. They came from 1-0 down at halftime to secure a 2-1 win with goals from Cadiz and Bello. Then, against Mexico, a 57th-minute penalty from star striker Salomon Rondon handed them a surprise win over group favourites Mexico.

With the winner of Group B likely to avoid Argentina in the competition's quarterfinals, there’s plenty for Venezuela to play for in this fixture.

In contrast, Jamaica came into Copa America 2024 on the back of three successive victories, 1-0 wins over Panama and the Dominican Republic followed by a 3-2 win over Dominica.

However, a 1-0 defeat in their opening game of the tournament to Mexico was followed by a costly 3-1 loss to Ecuador. Ensuring that Jamaica will not be featuring in the latter stages of the tournament regardless of the outcome of this game.

It will be interesting to see if manager Heimir Hallgrimsson decides to ring the changes for the game after two disappointing defeats and with his team already eliminated from the tournament.

Jamaica & Venezuela Squad Analysis

Neither Jamaica or Venezuela have any suspension concerns heading into their game on Sunday night and with no injuries to report, both managers should have fully-fit squads to pick from.

Jamaica manager Heimir Hallgrimsson has seen his team score their first-ever goal at the Copa America tournament, but they are yet to pick up a point. Eliminated from the tournament, the manager may elect to give some of the fringe players a chance to prove themselves against the Group leaders.

Venezuela have qualified, but Fernando Batista’s men still need a point from their final game to ensure top spot in Group B and in all likelihood, avoid a quarterfinal tie with Argentina. Skipper Tomas Rincon is their most experienced player, with Salmon Rondon spearheading the attack and comfortably their main goal threat.

Eduard Bello and Jefferson Savarino have performed well in the tournament, while experienced duo Alex Gonzalez and Jhon Chancellor anchor the defence. However, the manager may elect to give some fringe players game time in this game too, including Jon Aramburu, Telasco Segovia, Matias Lacava and 19-year-old Kervin Andrade.

Jamaica - Venezuela Key Points

  1. Venezuela has won both its Copa America 2024 group games so far, beating Ecuador (2-1) and Mexico (1-0).
  2. Jamaica has lost to Mexico (1-0) and Ecuador (3-1) and sit bottom of Group B
  3. In their only other past Copa America clash, Venezuela were 1-0 winners back in June 2016.
  4. Venezuela have won four of the seven games played between the two teams.
  5. Venezuela has lost just one of its last nine games, a 2-1 defeat to Italy in March.

Our Jamaica vs Venezuela Prediction

Our Venezuela vs Jamaica prediction at Copa America 2024 is Venezuela to win.

Despite failing to win any of their four games prior to the Copa America, drawing three and losing once, Venezuela started the tournament in great form earning a 2-1 win over Ecuador and then following that with a 1-0 win over Mexico.

Fernando Batista's team have qualified for the Quarterfinals on the back of those two wins. But for opponents Jamaica the contrast is stark with two defeats in their opening fixtures meaning the Reggae Boyz are already out of the competition at the group stage.

That makes our main prediction of a Venezuela victory in this game a relatively easy pick to make.

Jamaica vs Venezuela - Other Interesting Predictions

Salomon Rondon (Venezuela) to score at any time

In total, the current Venezuela squad has a total of 76 goals scored for their country.

Veteran striker Salomon Rondon has scored 41 of those goals. That is six more than all the other 25 players in the squad combined.

He was on target from the penalty spot in the 1-0 win over Mexico that assured them of qualification to the quarterfinals and is the focal point of their attack. As such, that makes him a very appealing pick as our secondary prediction as an anytime goalscorer in this game.

Venezuela to win and Under 2.5 Goals

Our other secondary prediction for the Venezuela v Jamaica game is for Venezuela to win, but for Under 2.5 Goals to be scored in the contest.

Recent history shows that Venezuela games tend not to have too many goals scored at either ends. Jamaica games, especially those against better opponents, also tend to see fewer goals than against lower-ranked opponents.

In the seven games between the teams, under 2.5 goals has been scored in five of the matches. With little at stake in this game, goals may be at a premium, hence going with the Under 2.5 Goals option alongside the Venezuela win.
