They arrive for this match after returning to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Costa Rica in the quarterfinals. Jaime Lozano’s charges had lost their final group match by a solitary goal to Qatar. They could afford to lose the match after winning their opening two matches by a combined seven goals. Mexico have only three times failed to advance to this stage of the competition in their history. They have played 20 semifinals and have won 14 times and one of the six times they lost, it was against Jamaica. Mexico were unable to win the Nations League last month so will seek to make amends with this tournament.
