Italy vs Switzerland Prediction & Betting Tips - Euro
by Daniel Ngulu | in Euro Predictions
Italy had the perfect start to their Euro 2020 campaign with a 3-0 win over Turkey and they will be out to mete the same on Switzerland, who opened with a 1-1 draw against Wales. After a fine run in the qualifiers, Italy were expected to get past Turkey with ease, and they did, though they had to scheme well for a powerful performance in the second half. They were helped on by a Marih Demiral own goal early in the second half before Ciro Immobile and Lorenzo Insigne scored to wrap up the win. That was their 28th unbeaten outing and ninth straight clean sheet win. They haven’t lost since falling 1-0 to Portugal in October 2018 in the Nations League and the last time they conceded was in October 2020, against Netherlands. Italy have shown great growth under Roberto Mancini and have had a great balance between defence and attack, one thing they lacked before. They go here having scored two or more goals in each of their last nine matches and the fact that they will still be playing at home works well for the Italians. Also, in 39 matches at European Championship finals, the win over Turkey was the first time Italy managed to score three goals in a game.
Switzerland have no win in eight meetings with Italy, though Italy have only won once in the last five, the other four ending in draws. Each of their last four meetings were in friendly matches, and the last competitive meeting between the two was in Euro qualifiers in 1999, which ended 0-0. Switzerland were wasteful in their 1-1 draw with Wales and will hope to do better against one of the tournament favorites. Breel Embolo scored right after the break in the game but Kiefer Moore made them pay for their profligacy with a 74th minute goal. If they found it hard opening up Wales, then the Swiss have a tough task against this Italian side. Defensively, they will also have to be alert throughout, and for a team with three clean sheets in the last 15 matches, defending against confident Italy side will call for a lot. The Swiss have only one comfortable win in the four they’ve managed in the last five matches – a 7-0 thrashing of Liechtenstein in their final warm up game. Before that, they managed wins by one goal margins against USA, Finland and Lithuania. The shape of this test for Switzerland will further be determined by the fact this is like an away game. They’ve won just once in the last six away matches, and kept no clean sheet in the process.

Our Italy vs Switzerland Prediction
Italy were expected to be strong starters to this competition, and they haven’t disappointed. Now they will be looking to secure their place in the next round and they will be favorites against Switzerland. The Swiss have their own attacking threat but for a team with nine straight clean sheets and wins, Italy should be able to handle them. Italy’s defending and attack have worked in great sync and we are expecting the same to be on show here, so we are backing them to win without conceding.
