Belgium continue their hunt for an international title as Roberto Martinez’ men now face Italy for a shot at Bronze in the UEFA Nations League third place at the Juventus Stadium. Belgium have been highly consistent in terms of results in the past few years with some of the finest individual talent on display. They have lost just twice in their last sixteen matches and the defeat to France in the semi-final do not really reflect their actual calibre. The thing with Belgium has been that even after consistent stellar performances in most matches, they have faltered in crunch games like the World Cup semi-final, Euro 2020 quarter final and most recently the Nations League semi-final. Martinez is expected to introduce a few youngsters in the team who did not get playing time in the semi-final. Belgium finished top of Group A2 in League A of the Nations League, ahead of Denmark, Iceland and England.

Italy’s defeat to Spain was the result of an inspired performance from Spain. Roberto Mancini’s side were down to ten-men and never managed to compensate for being one goal down. The Spain defeat may have ended Italy’s incredible run of a thirty seven game unbeaten streak, but does not undermine the European champions. Mancini’s men finished top of Group A1 in League A of the Nations League, featuring teams likeN Netherlands, Poland and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Italy beat Belgium in the Euro 2020 quarter-final a few months back and there is no reason to not believe that the same can be repeated. They also have a stellar head to head record against Belgium, winning fifteen out of a total of twenty three meetings with them.
