Israel host Iceland in one of the semi-final matches in Path B of the Euro 2024 Championships playoffs, although given the ongoing situation in the country, this home game will be played in Budapest, Hungary. The winner will face either Bosnia-Herzegovina or the Ukraine in the Path B final, either in Sarajevo or Wroclaw in Poland. Israel finished third in Group I just behind Romania and Switzerland and should fancy their chances against an Iceland team that won just three of their ten group games. Israel did look set to qualify automatically from the group, but just one win in their last four group games saw them drop down to third. They will also approach this game with a little confidence having not been beaten by Iceland in any of the five games between the two teams previously.

Iceland's famous run to the quarterfinals at Euro 2016 is very much a distant memory now as this current Icelandic team has struggled to match the performances of their predecessors. Two wins in January against Guatemala and Honduras (1-0 and 2-0 respectively) in games held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has boosted their confidence ahead of this game but they have lost six of he last ten before that, with their Nations League performance being the key to qualifying for these Euro 2024 playoff. Age Hareide's team will feel that they stand a better chance given that this game is not being held in Israel but with one genuine away win in their last 12 games, and that coming against minnows Liechtenstein, they are going to have to find some of that Icelandic Thunder if they are to upset the odds and land the win here.
