The Republic of Ireland and Sweden will face off in game three of Group A3 in the UEFA Women's Euro 2025 qualifying competition this Friday. The hosts are bottom of the group standings, while the visitors are third. After an incredible Nations League campaign, which saw them end top of their group with a perfect six wins in six games, the Republic of Ireland face a huge task to get out of their group in this competition. Drawn alongside powerhouses France, England and Sweden, they are massive underdogs in the section and are yet to earn their first points in these qualifiers. The Girls in Green suffered a 1-0 defeat against Les Bleus on matchday one and lost 2-0 to the Lionesses four days later, which extended their current winless run to four matches in all competitions. The hosts have also failed to score in their last two home games, but their recent record on home turf has been decent, with six wins, one draw and three losses in their last ten. These two played out a 1-1 draw when they met in April 2022, but Ireland are clear outsiders at the books in this one. 

Meanwhile, Sweden followed up their bronze medal at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup with a fairly underwhelming showing in the Nations League. They finished third in their group on that occasion and had to face a relegation playoff, albeit they came through that with ease, beating Bosnia and Herzegovina by a whopping 10-0 scoreline. The Swedes seem to have carried that mixed form into this competition, currently on one point after two games and in need of major improvement if they intend to finish in the top two placings. That point came in a 1-1 draw against England on matchday one, and was followed by a 1-0 defeat against France later that week. On the road, the visitors have a record of four wins, two draws, and four losses in their last ten games but have scored nine goals in their last three. Sweden have not lost to this opponent in four previous encounters dating back to June 2008.
