Ireland vs Netherlands Prediction & Betting Tips - Euro
by Sridhar | in Euro Predictions
Aviva Stadium in Dublin will play host to Ireland’s crucial match against the Netherlands on Sunday in the European Championship Qualifiers. This Group B match will see the hosts fourth in points table with three points and the visitors second on six points, having played a game lesser. The hosts are only three points above the bottom-placed Gibraltar in the group although on paper they are the same distance from top-two. That said, they have already played four matches and haven’t shown any form to be good enough for a move up the ladder. Republic of Ireland lost 1-0 to France and 2-1 to Greece before whipping the basement team Gibraltar 3-0. Things got back to square one when they were beaten 2-0 by France in this month’s fixtures. With two of their remaining games against the Netherlands, this fixture could be crucial to the overall qualification hopes of the hosts.
The Netherlands are coming off a 3-0 win over Greece, which is their second win in a row with that score. They started their qualification campaign with a 4-0 hiding at the hands of France but then bounced back with a 3-0 win over Gibraltar. The visitors know that another win – of any magnitude – will solidify their claims over the second spot. Currently, they are level on points with third-placed Greece who have played a game extra. The loss to France in that sense plays an important role as the Dutch need to erase it from memory quickly. That remains their only defeat across six previous Euro qualifying matches, that saw them win four and draw one.

Ireland - Netherlands: Form Analysis
Ireland are coming off a 2-0 loss to France away from home. That match saw them concede goals in either half and made it their third defeat across four qualifying games in this campaign. Going a bit further back, the hosts have won four and lost five of their last nine matches in all competitions and friendlies. Despite such poor form, their record at home in the Euro qualifiers raises hopes. Republic of Ireland have won six of their last nine home Euro qualifying matches, which means they can’t be ruled out just yet.
The Netherlands are coming off a 3-0 win over Greece which arrests a recent slide of poor results. They have lost four of their previous five matches, winning just once before that win over Greece. That included their defeat to Argentina in the World Cup plus the two defeats in the UEFA Nations League. Otherwise, the Dutch have been impressive in the Euro qualifiers, winning their last two against Gibraltar and Greece both with a 3-0 scoreline. Their only loss in this campaign has come against France, which came on the road. Incidentally, that is their only defeat across their last six away Euro qualifiers, winning four and drawing one.

Ireland & Netherlands Squad Analysis
Ireland came out on the wrong side in the match against France not just in terms of result but also in terms of injuries. Will Keane and Enda Stevens came off with injuries and are unlikely to be fit for this match. Red-hot Brighton striker Evan Ferguson will also be unavailable due to injury. These injuries leave the door open for James McClean and Aaron Connolly although Adam Idah could be their first-choice striker.
The Netherlands also had an injury concern in their match against Greece during the midweek. Defender Nathan Ake came off to be replaced by Stefan de Vrij. Although there’s no report on the progress or if it was a tactical switch, Ake could be out of contention here. Justin Bijlow and Memphis Depay are already unavailable after the duo withdrew even before their Thursday match.
