Ireland start the weekend in second place in Group D behind Serbia on goal difference and four points clear of third placed Wales. A win at home to Austria while Serbia host Wales, could see the Irish go top of the table. A win and defeat for Wales would virtually guarantee them at least a place in the play-offs. A weakened Irish side lost in Mexico but then more experienced players returned and they beat Uruguay 3-1 at home. The Republic have only lost one of their last five home games and won 1-0 away at Austria earlier in the campaign. Austria did well to qualify for the European Championships last year but have been struggling for a while now. They are fourth in this group and a loss here will see them fall seven points behind Ireland and virtually out of the World Cup. Austria have only won two of their last 11 games with only wins over Georgia and Moldova. Go for Ireland to get a home win in this game.
