Iran - Qatar: Form Analysis
Iran came into the competition as the second-highest-ranked side in the AFC region behind Japan and have delivered on expectations so far. They came through the group stages with flying colours as one of only two sides to win all three round-robin matches. Team Melli kicked off their Asian Cup campaign with a convincing 4-1 victory over Palestine and followed up with a 1-0 win over Hong Kong and a 2-1 win over the United Arab Emirates. In the knockout rounds, they were held to a 1-1 draw by Syria but managed to pull through in a penalty shootout. However, their undoubted best performance came in the quarter-final when they knocked out the number one ranked side in the region, Japan, by a scoreline of 2-1 courtesy of a stoppage-time goal by Alireza Jahanbakhsh. With those results, Iran are now unbeaten in their last 18 matches in all competitions, dating all the way back to March last year.
Meanwhile, Qatar almost saw their hold on the Asian Cup come to an end in the last round when they were held to a 1-1 draw in regulation time by Uzbekistan. However, after 120 minutes of back and forth, they managed to get over the line via penalties. Up to that point, The Maroons had won each of their four preceding matches in the competition, starting with a 3-0 win over Lebanon in match one and back-to-back 1-0 victories over Tajikistan and China PR. In the Round of 16, Qatar came from behind to overcome the neutrals favourite Palestine 2-1. Over their last ten matches, the defending champions have won eight and lost two matches, failing to score only once in that time. While Qatar have the home-ground advantage, they have lost each of their last six encounters with this opponent and have only scored once in that time.

Majid Hosseini is nursing a sore ankle and is a doubt for this match while Mehdi Taremi, who has scored three goals in this competition, will be eligible to return for this match after missing the quarter-final against Japan due to suspension.
Qatar have an almost full squad for their upcoming match, with only reserve goalkeeper Salah Zakaria being the sole notable injury concern, nursing an undisclosed injury. Akram Afif, the team's leading scorer in the tournament with three goals, is expected to lead the attack once again.
