Ipswich Town vs Sheffield Wednesday Prediction & Betting Tips - Championship

Two sides at opposite ends of the Championship will face off this weekend when Ipswich Town play host to Sheffield Wednesday. The hosts are currently in third place in the league standings, while the visitors are second bottom. Owing to Leicester City’s dip in form of late, Ipswich Town have gotten themselves right back in contention for automatic promotion. They are currently on 78 points after 37 matches, just one point behind Leeds United and four behind the Foxes. However, they did relinquish second place last week, losing to Cardiff City 2-1 on the road. That result halted a seven-match unbeaten streak, during which time they scored two or more goals in each game. Ipswich have been dominant at Portman Road this season, boasting an impressive record of 13 wins, four draws, and only one loss in 18 Championship matches. They are now looking to extend their remarkable 16-match unbeaten streak at home, which includes 12 wins and four draws, stretching back to September 2023. 

It seemed unlikely that Sheffield Wednesday would avoid the drop leading up to the New Year, but thanks to a solid run of results this year, they have pulled themselves right back into contention. Since January 1st, they have taken 13 points from a possible 21 and were on a four-match unbeaten run (W3 D1 L0) before losing to title contenders Leeds United last weekend. That defeat left them on 38 points, just one point from safety, and a win here could see them move up as many as four places in the table, provided they get some luck in results elsewhere this weekend. In away games this season, the visitors have only managed to take 13 points from a possible 54, though they did win their last two against Millwall and Rotherham United. Still, having lost the reverse fixture 1-0 and failing to win any of their last three against this opponent, Wednesday are big outsiders in this one.
