Inter are second in Serie A and host sixth placed Cagliari in the last sixteen of the Italian Cup. The winner of this tie faces an away match against either Atalanta or Fiorentina in the quarter finals. Both sides will make changes for this game, that's what happens in cup ties these days until the latter stages. Inter lost the lead in Serie A at the weekend after being held to a 1-1 home draw by Atalanta. That left them two points behind Juventus and now they turn their attention to the Italian Cup. Inter are unbeaten in their last four games and against Italian sides, have only been beaten by Juventus this season. Over 90 minutes, Inter have only lost one home Italian Cup tie and beat Cagliari 3-0 in 2015.
Cagliari are sixth but are having a poor run at present. The weekend saw them lose 2-0 at home to AC Milan and that was their fourth straight loss in Serie A. with ten goals conceded. This disappointing set of results follows a run of four wins and two draws in Serie A. Away form has seen them without a win in four games with at least two goals conceded in each of those matches. When they were playing better, Cagliari beat Sampdoria 2-1 at home in the Italian Cup fourth round. With just three away cup wins in the past 11, this looks another tough game for an out-of-form Cagliari. Go for Inter to get the home win here.
