Matchday 17 in the Italian Serie A sees league leaders Inter looking to widen the gap atop the standings when they host 12th-place Lecce. It’s been a fantastic start to the 2023/24 campaign for the 19-time Scudetto winners who have built up a four point lead over second-place Juventus as we approach the halfway point in the season. The Nerazzurri are coming off a surprise 2-1 extra time home defeat to Bologna in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday, eliminating them from the competition in the round of 16. The loss also snapped a 15 match unbeaten run for Inter, a stretch which included 11 wins across all competitions. While good at getting results, Lecce have been unable to convert many of their draws into the full three points. They’re coming off a hard-fought 2-1 home win over Frosinone in their most recent fixture, albeit with a touch of good fortune. Lecce scored the winner in the 89th minute despite registering zero clear cut chances while their opponent racked up three. Still, they’ve been managing to find the net as of late with 11 goals scored in their last seven matches.
