The first team to feature in the final of the Coppa Italia will be decided this week, when Inter Milan takes on Juventus in the second leg of the first semi-final on Wednesday evening. The winner of this match will take on either Fiorentina or Cremonese in the final, though Fiorentina are in a commanding position, leading the other semi-final 2-0. This tie hangs in the balance at 1-1 following a 95th-minute equalizer by Romelu Lukaka in the first leg, which canceled out Juan Cuadrado’s opener. Following Lukaku’s goal, all sorts of mayhem ensued, resulting in both goal scorers being sent off after a scuffle between both sets of players over Lukaku’s celebration in front of the home supporters. Since then, Inter Milan successfully navigated through to the UEFA Champions League semi-final, overcoming Benfica 5-3 on aggregate, and are set to take on their long-time rivals AC Milan next month. Despite their excellent cup results, Inter’s league form has taken a significant dip, and they were on a five-match winless run up to last weekend, which saw them fall out of the Champions League qualification places in Serie A, now in sixth place. Inter will need to draw on their passionate home support to pull off what will be a huge result for them in this one. 

Juventus are also still involved in Europe after seeing off Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League in midweek, and following the exit of Manchester United in one of the other quarter-finals, they are now the clear favourites to go on to lift the trophy. However, like their opponents, the visitors league form has taken a dip in recent weeks, losing each of their last three matches against Lazio, Sassuolo, and Napoli. Juventus have gotten the better of Inter Milan in recent times and come into this one unbeaten in their last three encounters, winning two and drawing one. Following the controversy in the reverse fixture, Juventus will be expecting a hostile environment at the Giuseppe Meazza and will need to try and find an early goal to silence the crowd, or they could find themselves under immense pressure as the match goes on.
