IFK Varnamo are only one place and three points above the Allsvenskan relegation play-off position. They host AIK who are third in the table, three points off the lead but from a game more. Varnamo's form has slumped in recent weeks with only one point from four league games. Ten goals have been conceded in those matches and just one scored. That came in their last home game when taking the lead against Sundsvall but ended up drawing 1-1. Their most recent fixture saw them lose 5-0 at second placed Djurgarden. Home form has seen them only lose one of their six league fixtures with two games won, one against Degefors who are one from bottom in the table.

AIK have only one loss in their last 12 games in the Allsvenskan and unbeaten in the last five away. Thursday saw them lose 3-2 at Vorskia in the first leg of their Europa Conference League second qualifying round tie. Three of their last four away league games have ended all-square, though they led in two of those matches. Only two of their away league fixtures have been won (seven played), compared to six wins out of eight at home. Their two wins came against two of the bottom three in the table. Up against the side one place above the drop zone, AIK can get a third away league win of the season.
