Nations League action continues in Reykjavik this week as Iceland host Turkey in what is an important Group B4 match. The Table-topping Crescent-Stars are unbeaten as yet in the tournament, with two wins and a draw, but Our Boys Iceland will be seeking to follow up a good second-half performance against Wales with a vital win here. Let’s check out our prediction for this even contest.
Turkey’s good form at Euro 2024 has continued into the Nations League under manager Vincenzo Montella. An opening day draw away to Wales was an acceptable, rather than spectacular result. However, they followed that up with two better displays in their next two games.
First was a 3-1 win over Iceland in Izmir on Matchday Two and then last week they followed that up with a tight 1-0 win over Montenegro in Samsun. Those results mean Turkey top the group by two points from Wales, with Iceland a point behind the Welsh in third.
Iceland’s sole win of this stage of the tournament came in their opener against Montenegro, when they were 2-0 winners over Montenegro. A 3-1 defeat in Turkey followed that performance before they trailed 2-0 to Wales at half time last Wednesday.
However, Age Hareide’s team fought back superbly in the second half to level the game at 2-2 and they were unlucky not to win the game, hitting the woodwork twice in that second half. That should give them plenty of confidence heading into this important match.
