Iceland vs Slovakia Prediction & Betting Tips - Euro
by Joseph King | in Euro Predictions
Slovakia and Iceland both seek their second win in a row when they face off in Reykjavik for this 2024 European Championship qualifying match. Slovakia are currently second in the group with four points from their first two matches, giving them a one point lead over fourth-place Iceland. They kicked things off with a draw against Luxembourg before their most recent victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina. Slovakia will be seeking their third consecutive qualification to Europe’s prestigious international competition. Iceland suffered a defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the opener to their qualifying campaign before responding with a convincing away win over Liechtenstein. The hosts are looking to qualify for the Euros for only the second time in their history following their debut in the 2016 edition in France.Limited Offer. Currently at DraftKings

Iceland - Slovakia: Form Analysis
Morale is sure to be high in the Iceland camp after blasting seven goals past Liechtenstein their last time taking to the field. The 7-0 away victory is the biggest ever win for Strákarnir okkar in a competitive fixture. It came at the perfect time as well, as Iceland had suffered back-to-back defeats along with a three match winless run just prior. Iceland won the Baltic Cup in November of 2022 in their first time competing in the tournament. They made it past Lithuania and Latvia, both on penalties, to claim the title. This is Iceland’s first match at the Laugardalsvöllur in over a year. Their last outing on home soil resulted in a 2-2 draw with Israel in June of 2022.
Slovakia have made themselves a difficult side to break down in recent outings. The Falcons have kept three consecutive clean sheets which includes their first two games of the 2024 European Championship qualifying campaign. Slovakia kicked things off with a disappointing 0-0 home draw with Luxembourg before their 2-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina in March. However, all three of those matches came on home soil. Slovakia’s last two away matches resulted in them conceding four total goals after a 2-2 draw with Montenegro and a 2-1 defeat to Kazakhstan. Slovakia are 4-3-3 in their last 10 matches either away from home or on neutral fields.

Iceland & Slovakia Squad Analysis
Italian manager Francesco Calzona has some talent to choose from in this Slovakian team. Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka of Newcastle will be familiar to Premier League fans and is set to start between the sticks for the visitors. Stanislav Lobatka is coming off a Serie A title with Napoli and is Slovakia’s key player at the base of the midfield three. Defender David Hancko has seen his transfer value shoot up after an excellent season with Eredivisie winners Feyenoord. We’re also likely to see another appearance by 36-year-old Juraj Kucka. The combative midfielder brings a wealth of experience with over a decade in the Serie A and a season at Watford in the Premier League.
Burnley’s Gudmundsson is the most recognizable name for the hosts and was a key piece in helping the Clarets earn promotion back to the Premier League. The 32-year old scored four goals and pitched in six assists in 37 league appearances this season. Former Coventry and Cardiff City player Aron Gunnarsson was the hat trick hero in the decimation of Liechtenstein last time out. Despite lining up as a central defender, the 34-year-old scored his third, fourth and fifth international goals in his first ever hat trick for his country. It’s unlikely manager Åge Hareide will tinker too much given his team’s seven-star performance last time out. Most goals and assists

Our Iceland vs Slovakia Prediction
There isn’t a whole lot to separate these two nations, meaning a tightly-contested affair is likely on the cards for this one. Slovakia have made themselves hard to beat but the result has been an exorbitant amount of draws over the past nine months. Iceland have historically been tough at home but their results have fallen off in the past two years at this stadium. A share of the spoils probably wouldn’t disappoint either manager too much at the end of the day. Our Iceland vs Slovakia prediction is for the match to end in a draw.
Iceland vs Slovakia - Other Interesting Predictions
Both teams to score: No
Only four of Iceland’s last 10 games (40%) have seen both teams scoring. Slovakia have seen the same in only four of their last 13 (30.8%). The 2.5 goals line is heavily juiced towards the under so we can get a lot more value in backing one of these two teams to keep a clean sheet.
