Iceland vs England Prediction & Betting Tips - UEFA Nations League
by Steve Ashfield | in UEFA Nations League Predictions
England still have a few nightmares about Iceland after their Euro 2016 defeat. A lot has happened since then though and England will be looking to repeat the success they had in the first Nations League. They reached the semi-finals of that tournament (eventually finishing third) but made a slow start and won't want that to happen this time around. The other teams in this group are Belgium and Denmark so England will do well to qualify. They come into this match having won five of their last six internationals and scoring 17 goals in their last three This is their first international of the year and they come into it with a strong squad and few injury worries.
Iceland did well to reach the last eight of the 2016 European Championships and then qualify for their first World Cup finals. Since then though they have struggled to build on those good results. They certainly don't have fond memories of the first Nations League, finishing bottom of the group with a -12 goal difference from four games, all of which were lost. That was due to relegate them but the restructuring of the competition has seen them stay in the top League. They won't be too keen on facing Belgium again though after losing twice to them in the 2018/19 Nations League. Their European Championship qualifying campaign saw them fail to get through to the finals, finishing third behind France and Turkey. They are unbeaten in their last five games but England are going to be a bit harder to beat than the likes of Andorra, Canada, Moldova and El Salvador. This won't be a walkover for England but they should be able to get their Nations League campaign off to a winning start.

Our Iceland vs England Prediction
Iceland have struggled to build on the success they had in 2016 and 2018. No points in the last Nations League and failure to qualify for the next European Championships is a disappointing run of form for them. They have had some wins in recent games but against poor opposition. England have built strongly since that loss to Iceland in 2016 and this group looks to be between them and Belgium. Form has been good and their players will be fit from recent European games. Go for an away win here.
