Both Hungary and Scotland failed to reach the World Cup finals so instead begin rebuilding and preparing for the European Nations League. Hungary probably knew their fate right from the moment they were drawn alongside Portugal and Switzerland in their World Cup qualifying group. They finished third but were 14 points behind second-placed Switzerland and all of their points came from the three sides that finished below them. Friday saw Hungary lose 3-2 at home to Khazakhstan going two down inside the first ten minutes. Before that loss they had won three out of their last four home matches with the only defeat being by Portugal.

Scotland had a strong second-half to their World Cup qualifying group but still failed to make the play-offs and will spend yet another summer watching a major finals. They have a new manager now but the second reign of Alex McLeish began with a disappointing 1-0 home defeat by Costa Rica last Friday. That's three games without a win and they have only wins over Malta and Lithuania in their last seven away matches. There's a lot of work to be done to get Scotland into a position where they can be looking at qualifying for tournament finals and there's likely to be more experimentation in this game. Neither side are in good form so go for under 2.5 goals in this match.
