Portugal had a convincing 5-1 win over the Faroe Islands on Thursday but still trail leaders Switzerland by three points. There are three games left and with Hungary eight points behind in third place, avoiding defeat here will guarantee Portugal a play-off place at least. This group is likely to go down to the wire with Portugal hosting Switzerland in the final game on October 10. Before that showdown, Portugal have to ensure they get maximum points away to Hungary and Andorra. Away form for Portugal began with that 2-0 loss in Switzerland but since then they have played two and won them both scoring nine goals and not conceding. Hungary have little chance of qualifying and still have to travel to Switzerland who beat them 3-2 at home. Their other two games saw them get easy wins over Andorra and Latvia who are leagues below Portugal.  Away form has been their problem and they even lost 1-0 in Andorra. Portugal are in form and can get the three points from this match.
