There will be a tasty Bundesliga clash on this Friday night when Hertha Berlin host Schalke at the Olympiastadion. Jurgen Klinsmann is in the hot seat for the capital club after being appointed as coach in late November. Results have improved since then and, heavy defeat to Bayern aside, they are unbeaten in five of their last six league matches. While performances haven't always been as convincing as results would suggest, Klinsmann will be happy that his club is five points clear of relegation. Although 14th place is not the terrain to set up a picnic on, the recent signing of Lucas Tousart was a sign of their ambitions. The €25 million record signing will spend the rest of the season with Lyon before moving in the summer. A defensive midfielder who has been compared to Javi Martinez, Hertha could do with a player of his quality to bolster their midfield against Schalke.
That is because Schalke, now bossed by former Huddersfield manager David Wagner, have gone from battling relegation last season to contending for a European place this time around. While a Champions League place is their immediate aim, it would still be hasty to completely rule Schalke out of the title race. Sixth in the table, they're three points off Gladbach in fourth and seven off Leipzig at the top. Wagner will be keen to get Schalke to bounce back from a battering at the hands of Bayern last week and we see the visitors picking up three points here. A deadly counter-attacking force, Schalke break at speed and punish ponderous possession. They steamrollered Hertha by three goals back in August and the hosts have improved since. However, Schalke should have the bit between their teeth for this encounter. Back the away side to win draw no bet.
