Hertha Berlin’s end of season run-in has been anti-climactic to say the least. Safe from relegation but too far afield from European qualification, wins in each of their last two Bundesliga outings – the first time the Berliners have managed that since September – were meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Hertha are, however, now unbeaten in four matches (W2 D2), and another result here would be the longest they’ve gone without defeat since the 18/19 campaign began – not a bad way for Pal Dardai to set his side up ahead of the 19/20 season. Bayer Leverkusen also head into this in good form after their 1-1 draw against Schalke last weekend. Peter Bosz’s men are unbeaten in five and are behind 4th placed Borussia Monchengladbach – and thus Champions League qualification – on goal difference alone going into Saturday’s game. On their day, Leverkusen can be quite the opponents – they also had another fruitful spell earlier this year, recording six wins from seven, which included a 3-1 win over Bayern Munich – and recent results show how effective their attack can be. Leverkusen also tend to make the most of their favourable fixtures, winning in each of their last seven away outings against teams ranked lower than them in the Bundesliga. Backing them to win wouldn’t be a bad option, but we’re thinking that a bet on ‘over 3.5 goals’ offers slightly better value. Leverkusen’s scoring form cannot be questioned – Bosz’s men have scored an average of almost three goals per game over their last five league outings – but it does often come at the expense of their defence. Hertha should be able to capitalise on that, having scored seven goals over their last two games.
