Guinea-Bissau vs Ghana Prediction & Betting Tips - AFCON
by Donal Kearns | in AFCON Predictions
When the draw was made, both Ghana and Cameroon would’ve been happy to share a group with Benin and Guinea Bissau, though the Ghanaians have struggled to stamp their authority. Two matches in and Kwasi Appiah’s men are without a win. Fortunately, their task is simple; win and they’ll make the last-16, but anything less than victory is likely to mean an early exit for the 2015 finalists. After what was a tough first game, a game where they both struggled at the back and struggled to get involved offensively, creating just 0.59 expected goals for and conceding 1.42, Guinea-Bissau recovered by drawing with Benin on match-day two, though they once again created a negative impression. In general, partly because of the high temperatures, this tournament doesn’t necessarily produce a glut of goals, though getting the ball in the net is still the route to victory. Unfortunately, nobody seems to have told Baciro Cande’s men, who’re yet to score in Egypt. Not only have Guinea-Bissau failed to get the ball in the net, but they come into their final group matches having registered zero shots on target. In addition to struggling offensively, Guinea-Bissau haven’t exactly covered themselves in defensive glory. They did keep a clean sheet against Benin last time out, but they had both their keeper and Benin’s general lack of end-product to thank for that. Moreover, they found it very tough to keep Cameroon at bay first time out. The fact that Cande’s side have an average expected goal difference of -0.82 after two games tell us that they’ve given more away than they’ve created. Ghana also come into this match off the back of a 0-0 draw, though their efforts weren’t too bad, as they created more than Cameroon going forward. That said, the Black Stars haven’t exactly fired on all cylinders in the final third. First time out, they had to rely on the individual quality of the Ayew brothers. The fact that Ghana posted only 0.31 expected goals for against Benin suggests that they struggled to forge clear-cut openings. The key factor in this fixture is likely to be the sheer difference in quality. With players such as Andre Ayew, Thomas Partey, Mubarek Wakaso and Jordan Ayew, Ghana have numerous difference-makers, while Guinea-Bissau simply do not. However, we shouldn’t assume that the Ghanaians will run riot.

Our Guinea-Bissau vs Ghana Prediction
In the betting, ‘Ghana to Win & Under 2.5 Goals’ stands out as a viable option. For all they’ve got more quality than their opponents, the fact that Ghana have created an average of just 0.66 expected goals for isn’t overly impressive. Fortunately, they’re up against a side that seems to be incapable of creating or scoring, so opting for Kwasi Appiah’s men to record a low-scoring win makes plenty of sense.
