The closing match of the first round of action in the Brazilian Serie A will see Gremio host Fluminense on Monday in Porto Alegre. Gremio finished fourth last season, with 65 points, way ahead of Fluminense who managed 46 points and a 14th placed finish. They will both gun for better finishes this season and Gremio head to this clash having won the Campeonato Gaucho. Gremio will hope to carry their form in the tournament to this clash, having gone undefeated in the last five matches post lockdown. Three of the five matches ended in wins and two in draws but they are unbeaten in their last 10 matches going back to February 2020. In the five matches played after lockdown, Gremio have kept three clean sheets and failed to score in just one; they will be hoping to keep that form going to this game, which they have not won in the last two meetings. The hosts have good home record, with just two losses, and 11 wins in their last 15 home games across all competitions.

On the other hand, Fluminense played six matches in Carioca 1 after lockdown and could only manage one win, on post match penalties. They lost three of the six and failed to score in four. Of the six matches, Fluminense managed two clean sheets but in none of the six matches did they score more than a goal. Heading to this match, Fluminense will want to carry their form away from home at the finish of the Serie A last season, when they lost just one of the final five away matches, and were unbeaten in their last three. They however failed to score in their last two away matches in the Carioca 1, losing one and drawing the other. They beat Gremio back to back last season in the Serie A and will be looking to extend the same this season.
