Gremio are finally off the foot of the Brazilian Serie A standings thanks to their first win of the season in their last league game. They will be hoping for a second when they play host to struggling America Mineiro. The two sides are yet to hit double digits heading to Week 13 of the season, though Gremio have played 10 matches, two less than America Mineiro. Going to the match, Gremio have six points and America nine, the two positioned 19th and 18th respectively. Just when things had started looking up for Gremio, they suffered a home loss to LDU Quito in the Copa Sudamericana and have to devise a way back to victory. A run of three straight clean sheets and two wins was cut short by LDU Quito in a 2-1 loss but they can look at one loss in four matches as a positive run to build on. They will also be hoping to address their home form, having failed to win any of the last six matches there, but with four losses in the last 15 at home, they have a good point to start from.

America Mineiro just returned to the league after a three-year absence. Their return hasn’t received a very rosy welcome though and after 12 matches they have just two wins – one more than Gremio. A loss here will see them drop to 19th and that alone should be a motivation to go for a win. They however go to this game on the back of three straight losses and have failed to register a goal in that run, though they’ve been conceded just once a game in the last two matches, after earlier suffering a 4-0 loss to Fortaleza. They are even poorer away from home; in the last five away league matches this season, they have four losses and one win. In the last four away league matches, they have conceded two goals or more, and they’ve failed to score in three. The high scoring nature of their away matches means each of their last three has produced over 2.5 goals, while they have no clean sheet in any of the five.
