Grasshoppers and Basel will be going in search of their first wins of the season when they meet in Zurich on Saturday. Hosts Grasshoppers look to build on their one point so far while Basel have no point yet. Read on for the match preview and our prediction.

Grasshoppers were denied their first win of the season in the last match in a 2-2 draw with Luzern. The hosts were just five minutes away from three points after coming from 1-0 down. The result left them without a win in four straight matches now and there’s the additional worry about their defence.

In 19 league matches stretching to last season, Grasshoppers managed only two clean sheets. However, having beaten Basel in three of their last four meetings, the hosts will be confident of registering a first win.

Basel will be targeting a second successive win over Grasshoppers. In their most recent meeting, the visitors won 1-0. Their opening two matches of the season ended in defeats, the latest one a 2-1 reverse at home to Lugano.

Following their opening day loss to Lausanne-Sport, Basel have now conceded five goals in two matches. This run leaves them with just two wins in their last eight competitive matches, putting in consideration their closing matches of last season.

One of those wins was against Grasshoppers, in a game that also featured one of their four clean sheets in six matches. One of Basel’s four losses away from home in the last 14 league matches was inflicted by Grasshoppers. They did go on a four-match unbeaten away run to wrap up their season in 2023/24 but started the current one on a losing note.
