Atlético Madrid desperately need to stop the bleeding. They’ve lost three straight La Liga matches and the champions hopes of a title defense are hanging on by a thread. They travel to the Estadio Nuevo los Carmenes to take on Granada in this rescheduled matchday 9 encounter. With a game in hand, Simeone’s Atleti can close the gap on leaders Real Madrid to 11 points with a win. A victory will also see them leapfrog Rayo Vallecano into fourth place. Atletico’s last match was a 2-1 defeat to Sevilla in which they gave up a late winner to Lucas Ocampos in the 88th minute. 

Granada have seen a recent run of seven points in their last three league matches lift them out of the relegation zone. Robert Moreno’s men currently sit on 19 points - four above the bottom three, and can give themselves more breathing room with a result against Atletico. They currently sit 15th but can move up to 12th with a win. Although Simeone will be disappointed with Atleticos recent results, they have been quite unlucky to have lost their three most recent league matches. In those matches, they created five total clear cut chances and gave up just one and a strong argument can be made that they deserved at least seven points from those games. This will be Atletico’s fourth straight away match and we expect them to respond strongly here against Granada.
