Goias skipped from the Serie A relegation zone and will be looking to sustain their rise when they host Gremio. The two sides are on opposite ends of the standings; Gremio second and Goias 16th. A massive 14 points separate the two sides going into the 17th round of matches. Goias are coming from two unbeaten outings; the latest a 1-0 away win at Cruzeiro. That was their second clean sheet on the bounce. In the Serie A, that was Goias’ first win in five matches. The last two games represent improvement in their defending, having earlier conceded two or more in three straight matches. Their home form in the league isn’t the best, having failed to win in four. They’ve lost twice in the four matches and failed to score in two. In their last five home league matches, Goias have managed one clean sheet only.

Gremio will be glad to be back to league action; cup matches haven't really favored them as league assignments have. Their recent run has brought mixed results. They are coming from a 2-0 home loss to Flamengo in the Brazilian Cup. The 1-0 win over Atletico Mineiro earlier is their only outright victory and clean sheet in the last five matches. They did beat Bahia on post-match penalties after a 1-1 draw in the Brazilian Cup. Twice in the last five matches they failed to score and conceded twice. League assignments have however been more enjoyable and Gremio have won four of the last five. They scored two to more in three of the last five matches. Away from home, they have three wins in five league matches and only failed to score in one.
