Girona will go into their 36th game of La Liga at home to Villarreal, seeking to strengthen their push for second place. A top four spot is assured for Girona, who welcome European football-chasing Villarreal, currently placed eighth. A 2-2 draw with Alaves didn’t mark the best outing for Girona right after their 4-2 win over Barcelona. They will particularly be gutted at having led twice in the game and let two points slip. A place in the top-six is till achievable for Villarreal, and that gives them the impetus here. They kept that hope alive after twice coming from down to beat Sevilla 3-2 last time out. The Yellow Submarines have Alexander Sørloth to thank after his 90th minute winner kept them in the race for European football. Two clean sheets in their last 14 matches is, however, the big concern they carry into this game. Villarreal have a good scoring run, but their defensive discipline has on a number of occasions let them down. In the last two matches only, for example, they conceded five goals. In 17 away La Liga matches, Villarreal managed just six wins. Their recent good away run was checked in a 3-2 loss at Celta Vigo the last time they played away from home. That was their 13th straight away match without a clean sheet.
