A Group B fixture of the Argentinian Primera Nacional, the country's second-tier, sees two promotion hopefuls battle it out when Gimnasia Mendoza go to battle with Sarmiento. The home side, seventh in the table, are five points off a playoff spot. The away side, third in the table, are seven points off second place with one game in hand. Gimnasia come into the game in flying form, unbeaten in four games with three of those ending in victory. The most recent was the most emphatic, a 5-1 win at Atletico Rafaela. They started the season shakily but have partially corrected the malfunctioning parts of their unit at the business end of the campaign. Their home form is an example of this improvement. They have won five of their last six matches at the Estadio Víctor Antonio Legrotaglie after failing to win their opening four fixtures there when the season was only beginning. 

Their last outing being a convincing 3-0 home win over Douglas Haig, Sarmiento hope that the victory puts a bad run of results behind them. Three defeats in succession preceded that result, two of them occurring on the road. This has been a constant throughout the campaign for Sarmiento, an inability to perform adequately on the road. They have won only two of their ten away matches in the league this season and may be worried that this is an opportunity for a promotion rival to gain some ground. Then again, their previous meeting with Gimnasia didn't leave much in doubt about who was better, Sarmiento winning 4-1. With the form that Gimnasia are in, we can see another goal-filled encounter.
