Ahead of the 2024 UEFA Nations League in autumn, the League C and D relegation playoffs take center stage this Thursday. Gibraltar will host Lithuania in the first of this two-legged tie. The two lowest point scorers from the last edition will meet, with the winner going on to play in League C. Playing in Group 4 of League C last season, Gibraltar finished bottom with just a point. Their poor run was helped a lot by a poor scoring run. In their six group matches, they managed just three goals. all the goals came in three separate matches, meaning they didn’t score more than once in a game. The hosts don’t boast a very strong run coming here either. In the last 10 matches, they haven't scored a goal, while at the same time, they have no clean sheet. Gibraltar have managed two wins only in their last 35 matches. Those were against low-ranking Andorra (1-0) and Liechtenstein (2-0). This will be the first ever meeting between these two nations and a first leg advantage will be the target. Lithuania will have the favorites’ feel coming into the game, even though they play away from home. Their close to 2023 wasn’t really great, with two straight defeats, but they’ll be eyeing a strong start to 2024. Lithuania’s 2023 ended in a 1-0 loss to Cyprus in a friendly game. Unlike Gibraltar, who are winless in 10, Lithuania come here with a win in their last four matches. They’ve actually avoided defeat in five of their last 10 matches. Like Gibraltar though, their scoring run hasn’t been the best. In their League C group, they managed just two goals in six matches, though conceded four less than Gibraltar. Their last two matches ahead of this one ended without Lithuania scoring. They also failed to score in eight of their last 10 away matches.
