The final round of the Serie A season sees Genoa fighting for their survival when they host Verona at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. 17th in the table, Genoa are only one point clear of 18th-placed Lecce. Their destiny is in their own hands and a win will ensure that they remain in the Italian top flight for another year. Verona, ninth in the league, came up from Serie B last season and have had a wonderful return to the top flight. The three teams below them are three points behind them, so Verona will want to take at least a point from this match to cement their top-ten finish. Verona came out on top with a 2-1 win when the teams met earlier in the season.  It was their first win against Genoa for some time as they had failed to win the previous six encounters. If a victory was going to come for Verona, it was likely to be at home. Only five Serie A teams have a better home record than Verona. Away from home, they are much worse, winning only three of their 18 fixtures on the road. Verona are winless in their last ten away games.

Genoa aren't exactly fearsome at home, but they have won two of the last three games on their own patch. Survival could have been clinched earlier in the week when they travelled to Sassuolo. Those expecting a rousing performance from the desperate strugglers may have been surprised to see them get hockeyed 5-0. There have been at least three goals scored in Genoa's last five matches, a run on which they have failed to keep a clean sheet. Sorting out a leaky defence will be a priority and we can see this game being low on goalscoring chances. Three of the last five meetings between these teams featured fewer than three goals.
