Saturday in Serie A will kick off with Genoa taking on Empoli at Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferrari. This is a crucial bottom-half clash, with the hosts currently in 15th place while the visitors are 18th. After securing promotion to the top flight last season, Genoa have not set the stage alight this term but can be relatively content with their return so far. They are currently on 14 points after 13 games, leaving them four points above their opponents and the drop zone. The hosts took on fellow promotion recipients Frosinone last weekend and were beaten 2-1 with a last-minute strike from Ilario Monterisi. That marked their seventh loss this term, while they have managed four wins and two losses in the remaining six matches. At home, though, Genoa have been quite good of late, winning four of their last five in all competitions. The bookmakers make the hosts the favourites in this one. 

Meanwhile, Empoli navigated the top flight successfully last season, but they are in danger of relegation this term. The visitors are the first side below the dotted line and are only two points clear of bottom club Salernitana. In addition, they now face an opponent that they have failed to beat in their last seven encounters. Empoli also suffered last-minute heartbreak in their last match, when they were beaten 4-3 by Sassuolo at home. With that result, The Blues have now lost three of their last four league games, but somewhat astonishingly, they pulled off a 1-0 win over the defending champions Napoli directly before the international break. The visitors have a record of four wins and two losses on the road this season, though both those victories came in their last three games.
