Gabon and Mauritania had winning starts to their 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification race and both will be targeting three points on Match Day 2 as they face off in Group I. Gabon plays host, right after their 1-0 away win in DR Congo. This was their first win in. four matches, the earlier three having ended in draws at 90 minutes. In six straight games, Gabon haven’t lost inside 90 minutes, and have two wins. They’ve scored more than a goal in one of their last nine matches and they have three clean sheets in the last 10 matches. In AFCON qualification, Gabon have one loss only in 12 home matches. Mauritania are coming from a massive win at home, beating Sudan 3-0 at home. That was their third straight win, and also the third straight game in which they scored two or more goals. Former Fulham forward Aboubakar Kamara scored twice in the win over Sudan and will be fired up for this one. Defensively, Mauritania have managed two clean sheets ahead of this game but this may not form enough basis to pass them strong in that department. They have conceded in five of their last seven, and failed to score in four. Also, their three straight wins have all come at home; it is different when they play away from home. In 21 away matches, Mauritania have managed just two wins. They’ve failed to score in five of the last seven away matches.
