Fulham - Newcastle: Form Analysis
Fulham made it through to the quarterfinals last season and they will be eager to at the very least equal this feat. The London club has three times in the last four seasons been eliminated in this very round. This will be very much in the minds of Marco Silva’s men. The London club defeated Rotherham United 1-0 at home in the third round. Unfortunately - that win, in what was their first outing of 2024, was the last time they won. The Cottagers are without a win in three matches and have lost twice. Two of those matches came in the semifinals of the League Cup where they were eliminated 3-2 on aggregate by Liverpool. Fulham drew 1-1 with Liverpool in midweek.
Newcastle United have struggled for the better part of two months. They last won back-to-back matches in November. And since then they have won just four of their last 15 fixtures across all competitions. One of those victories was a convincing 3-0 thumping of Sunderland in round three of the FA Cup. That win put to a halt a run of four successive defeats. Eddie Howe’s men did however get back on the losing side in their very next match two weeks ago. They suffered a disappointing 3-2 loss at home in the league to Manchester City. The Magpies will hope the break since that match helps settle the nerves. Newcastle have only once since the 2005/06 season advanced past the fourth round of the FA Cup. This was in the 2019/20 season. They have been eliminated from the competition the last seven times in which they have faced off with a Premier League side.

Fulham & Newcastle Squad Analysis
Fulham could be without Adama Traore for another matchday. The forward hasn’t played since November due to a thigh problem. Marco Silva will also have to do without Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi and Fode Ballo-Toure. The three are out on national duty at the Africa Cup of Nations. Raul Jimenez and Bobby Reid are however available and should be amongst the first names to lead the attack. Both have scored six goals so far this season and are the team’s leading scorers. Jimenez was sent off in the league meeting with Newcastle last month and should have this as extra motivation to perform.
Newcastle United do not have any players representing their nations at the ongoing continental championships in Asia and Africa. They however have been decimated by injuries and could be without eight players for this match. Joelinton is the latest player to go into the team’s treatment room and could remain there for the rest of the season. Nick Pope, Joe Willock, Jacob Murphy, Harvey Barnes, Matt Target, Callum Wilson, and Elliot Anderson are all out injured. Miguel Almiron has scored three times in the last three meetings with Fulham. He should play a pivotal role in attack alongside Alexander Isak in the absence of Wilson.
