Promoted side Frosinone face a tough task on matchday one of the new season as they take on defending champions Napoli. This Serie A match will be played at the Stadio Benito Stirpe on Saturday. Frosinone are back in the top-flight after a four-year absence. They topped Serie B last season with a comfortable seven-point gap from their nearest challengers. Yet, the hosts will have no illusions about the step up in the quality they are going to face. Their top-flight stint lasted just one year when they were promoted last time. In that 2018-19 season Frosinone lost 23 of their 38 matches, winning just five and never looked in place with the top teams. That included losing both matches to Napoli that season, each time without scoring.

Napoli had a historic season to remember last year, as they won the Scudetto for the first time in 33 years. They finished with 90 points and at least 16 points more than any other club. They won a whopping 28 matches out of 38 and were the dominant force in Italy, if not Europe. Yet, the architect of that success – manager Luciano Spalletti is no longer in charge having left during the summer. New coach Rudi Garcia isn’t well known for his tactics or success, but the club is relatively settled in terms of players. The likes of Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia have stayed back at the club and their form could be crucial for the champions to start well.
