Freiburg will continue with their chase for a place in Europe this weekend when they host Heidenheim in the Bundesliga. Heidenheim, placed 10th, have secured their topflight place while Freiburg are looking to finish at least in seventh, where they currently are. A place in the Europa League is a strong possibility for Freiburg and in that, they have something to play for. Recent struggles have left them with just a win in the last five matches. Their 0-0 draw with Cologne last time out presented a new low for Freiburg. They have now failed to win any of their last three matches, though losing just once in that period. In their last eight matches, Freiburg only won against Borussia Monchengladbach and Darmstadt. An inconsistent run in the Bundesliga has left Freiburg with just four wins in the last 17 matches. It hasn't been any better at home, as Freiburg come winless in their last seven league games there. They lost four of the said seven matches and in seven of eight, they conceded more than a goal. In 16 home league matches, Freiburg managed just five wins.

Heidenheim’s first season in the Bundesliga has gone to plan. Their target to stay up has been reached and they can now focus on finishing in the top half. A spot in Europe next season is also mathematically possible, though that remains slim. Heidenheim will only be focused on finishing strongly, having managed 38 points in their first ever 32 Bundesliga games. Onto this game, Heidenheim will be eyeing their 10th win of the season. One of their nine wins so far was against Freiburg, coming from behind twice to win 3-2 in December. Their start to the season wasn’t the best, as they were welcomed with straight beatings by Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim. However, they didn’t let that define their stay in the topflight and it is all going to end on a high. In their last seven matches, Heidenheim suffered just one defeat, against Leipzig at home. One of their two wins in that run was a big one, against Bayern Munich. They are coming here unbeaten in their last two matches, the most recent having ended 1-1 against Mainz.
