Freiburg will be at home to welcome Frankfurt when the German Bundesliga enters round 22. The two teams sit bumper to bumper in the standings with Frankfurt sixth and Freiburg seventh. Freiburg will leapfrog their visitors with a win here and get into the European places. Having not won any of their last three matches should also work as extra motivation for Christian Streich’s men. Freiburg are coming off a 0-0 stalemate with Lens in the first leg of their Europa League knockout playoff tie. The result put to a halt a three-game losing run. All three defeats have come in the league with the more recent one being a 3-0 thrashing by Dortmund. Freiburg have amassed 28 points with five of their eight wins coming at home. The reverse match in Frankfurt back in September ended 0-0.

Frankfurt are also coming off a European assignment. Dino Topmoller’s men drew 2-2 with USG in the first leg of their Conference League playoff knockout tie. Though a positive result, it extended their winless run to three matches. Frankfurt have drawn twice in this three-game stretch with the other ending 1-1 at home against Bochum in the league. The Eagles haven’t lost to Freiburg in three meetings, winning once. They have also won eight times so far in the league and have accumulated 32 points. This has allowed them to hold on to the final European qualifying slot for next season. A win here could move them to within five points of the Champions League places.
