Freiburg could be plotting to inflict further damage on Bayern Munich’s season as the teams meet out this week. This Bundesliga match will be played at the Europa-Park Stadion on Friday with the hosts ninth with 29 points and the visitors second with 53 points. Freiburg have an outside chance of making a late dash to the European spots, as they stay five points behind sixth-placed Eintracht. That gap could have been much closer, but for their recent record. Freiburg have lost four of their last five league games, drawing the other, and coming here with the pressure of getting back their momentum. They have lost to Bayern 3-0 earlier in the season, but could fancy their chances of frustrating them at home. Freiburg were beaten just once across their last seven home league games, although winning only twice.

Bayern fell eight points behind leaders Leverkusen after a recent run of poor games. The chances of catching up with Leverkusen are looking slim, and worse still, Stuttgart are closing in, six points behind. At least they are coming off a good result, defeating Leipzig 2-1 in their last game. That result halted a three-game losing run in all competitions. One of those defeats was a 1-0 loss to Lazio in the first leg of the Champions League knockouts. With the second leg looming large, Bayern would have one eye on the reverse leg, although they can’t afford to take their eyes off this fixture. Losses to Leverkusen and Bochum have taken the steam off their season, and what Bayern would need now is to repair the damage. Understandably, all eyes will be on how they improve, having lost their last two away league games.
