France got the three points against Australia on Saturday but it wasn't the most impressive of wins. The trio of Pogba, Griezmann and M'Bappe didn't quite scare the Australian defence to death and the Socceroos did well to get to half-time without conceding a goal. Griezmann in particular didn't fire but at least he scored from the penalty spot which is more than Lionel Messi and a certain member of the opposition in this game can say. At least the goal-line technology allowed Pogba's goal to stand and that all-important first win was achieved, but better performances are needed in the future.

VAR also played a big part in Peru's opening fixture against Denmark. Just before half-time there were calls for a penalty and after examination of the replay a penalty was given, only for Christian Cueva to blast the ball over the bar. 14 minutes later Peru were behind and despite lots of possession and 17 chances on goal, Peru drew a blank. Losing the first game is never helpful and there's huge pressure on the Peruvians now as they take on France. The loss to Denmark ended a run of 18 games without defeat for Peru but if they don't improve their shooting then an early exit looks likely. The suggested bet is to go for France to get the win.
