Morocco have several injury worries ahead of this World Cup semi-final. Nayef Aguerd and Noussair Mazraoui didn't play against Portugal and Romain Saiss only lasted 50 minutes in that game. Mazraooui could be fit for this game and Aguerd also has a chance of returning to the starting line-up. Definitely out is Walid Cheddira who is suspended and Saiss is not expected to play either. France are the heavy favorites to win this match. They are the defending champions and have so much more experience of playing in the latter stages of tournaments. The French were a tad lucky to beat England in the quarter finals. They have won four of their five matches in this tournament and the other can be ignored as they played a weakened team. Mbappe and Giroud will be a handful for Morocco and that excellent defensive record of theirs may be about to come to an end.
It has been an impressive run by Morocco. Wins over Belgium, Spain and Portugal would make any country proud. While they are not that prolific up front, they will still create problems for the defending world champions. Can they maintain their impressive defensive record is the big question here. France have scored at least twice in each of their four wins in this World Cup. Mbappe has the same number of goals as the entire Moroccan team. With Morocco having injury and suspension problems, this looks too stiff a task for them. This World Cup semi-final between France and Morocco will be refereed by the Mexican referee Cesar Arturo Ramos. Previously in this tournament he has refereed the group games between Denmark and Tunisia and Morocco's surprise win over Belgium. In the last 16 he was in charge of Portugal's win over Switzerland. Despite of his young age (38 years old), Ramos is an experienced and recognized referee. He was already present in 2018 and officiated for three matches during the World Cup won by Les Bleus.
