The Germans have been on a decline and the loss to Netherlands will not help with the pressures on Joachim Loew’s team. For all their prowess as former World champions and with a number of top players, Germany have managed just one clean sheet in the last 11 matches and three wins in the last 12 matches. A row in the team that saw senior player Mesut Oezil retire from international football is just a highlight of the problems at the team and the fact that they have failed to score in four of the last seven matches says much about the team’s woes. They take on a France side unbeaten in 14 matches and with just one loss in 22. France have five clean sheets in their last 10 matches – the last time they failed to score, it was against Germany, in a 0 – 0 draw in Germany and while they are prolific upfront, France have conceded in three of their last four matches. Perhaps they wouldn’t be so worried about Germany, as the Germans have not scored so far in the UEFA Nations League and have not been strong in defence as well. France have been dominant in recent matches against Germany and they carry a four game unbeaten run against the Germans; in the four matches, France have kept three clean sheets and in three of the four matches they have managed to score twice. Head to head, the two giants have met 15 times and France have taken seven wins off those, with Germany winning four.
