World champions France had a dismal showing at the European Championships and have a chance to self-redeem, as the 2022 World Cup qualifiers return. They will be hosting Bosnia-Herzegovina in the third round of matches, looking to extend their lead in Group D. France tops with seven points, six better than their visitors, who are fourth. Going into the game, the French have three straight draws and only two clean sheets in the last five matches. They will be keen on improving from their last game, a 3-3 draw with Switzerland, which also ended in being kicked out of Euro 2020. They do have a great run at home – unbeaten in the last four matches and only one loss in 21 and they’ve scored three goals or more in three of the last four home games. Didier Deschamps will hope his star-studded side delivers and key to this will be Karim Benzema, who has four goals in the last two matches. The Real Madrid forward has already scored two in the opening three La Liga games and he impressed at the Euros after his return to the national team. Bosnia-Herzegovina lost 1-0 to France in their earlier meeting in this group, and their last outing ended in a 2-0 loss to Denmark in a friendly match. They have no win in the last 13 matches and have failed to score in their last four, while they’ve never beaten France in the five matches in their history. The visiting nation has lost six of the last 10 matches and scored in only two of the 10. On their travels, the only win in 13 matches has been against low-ranking Liechtenstein, and they’ve conceded two or more goals in the last four away games. In-form French forward Karim Benzema was part of the 2010 France team that beat Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-0 in the 2012 European Championship qualifiers. He scored one of the goals, and the visitors will have to handle this threat.
