France - Argentina: Form Analysis
The host nation came through the group stages as the pick of the teams and were one of only two sides to maintain a perfect three-for-three record. During that time, they scored seven goals, while maintaining three consecutive clean sheets.
Les Bleus got the competition started with a 3-0 win over USA, followed by a 1-0 win over Guinea before securing the top spot with a 3-0 demolition of New Zealand on Tuesday evening. Surprisingly, though, no French player has scored more than one goal in the competitions so far.
Despite this, France were the second-highest goal scorers in the group stage and will have the support of a packed house in Bordeaux behind them in this one.
Thierry Henry’s side are clearly the team to beat this year and are the only team in the competition that are yet to concede a goal!
Meanwhile, Argentina played their opening match of the competition and suffered a 2-1 defeat to surprise group winners Morocco. However, they rebound from that result in the best way possible, beating Iraq 3-1 and overcoming Ukraine 2-1 in their final group-stage match.
While La Albiceleste have looked good in attack here in Paris, there have been a few question marks over the defensive performances, having failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their three games so far.
Thiago Almada leads the charts for the South Americans with two goals and they will need another big performance from him to overcome the tournament favourites this weekend.
