France will be out to protect their perfect start when they face Ukraine in the Euro U21 quarterfinals on Sunday. This will be the last of four quarterfinal matches at the competition. Like it was in their opening games, France staged a great second half to beat Switzerland 4-1 in the last game. Three of their goals came in the second half after a 1-1 draw at half time. France have scored most of their goals in this competition in the second half. In their win over Switzerland Bradley Barcola scored his second goal of the competition. France have however managed just one clean sheet in their opening three matches here. In their last 10 appearances at this competition, this will be France’s 10th time in the quarters.

Ukraine come into this game having drawn 2-2 with Spain in their closing group game. They did well to win their opening two matches. By the time they played Spain, the two nations had already secured spots in the quarters and had no pressure. This will be a different type of game. Like France, Ukraine have scored in all their matches here. They have one clean sheet more than France and have also been scoring second half goals with some regularity. In 2006, Ukraine reached the Euro U21 final and haven’t replicated the same since. In eight meetings with France at U21 level, Ukraine have managed just one win, while four ended in draws.
