Fortaleza haven’t had the dream start to the season in the Brazilian Serie A. They hope they can get things going when they play host to bigwigs Sao Paulo. So far in the season, Fortaleza are the only ones yet to register a point, and are obviously bottom of the standings. Sao Paulo, meanwhile, have seven points, in seventh place. Fortaleza are doing much better in the Copa Libertadores than in Serie A; in the continental competition they have four points. Going into this game the hosts will hope to bag their first haul of three points but a lot of improvement will be key in that, having managed to score just one goal in the league so far. They are coming from a surprise 1-1 draw with River Plate in the Copa Libertadores and will be looking to build on that. Fortaleza have played eight competitive games this season and they have two wins only. With a win here, they can rise to 16th in the standings.

Sao Paulo have had a much more productive start to the season; they have played 11 competitive matches and lost just one, while winning six. Going into this game they have no loss in the last five matches but three ended in draws, with just one clean sheet coming off the five matches. In their last five matches, Sao Paulo have scored two or more goals in three, while both teams have scored in four of the five matches. Three of the last five matches have produced over 2.5 goals but their most recent ended in a goalless draw away to Chilean side Everton. Sao Paulo will however need improvement on their away form, having won just once in the last five matches. It has particularly been poor in the Serie A, where they haven’t won any of the last four away matches, two of them this season.
