Fortaleza have had a difficult start to the season. Not much is going for them and as they struggle to get a footing, they have a tough match in Group F of the Copa Libertadores against River Plate. Going into the game, Fortaleza have three points from the opening three matches and are third, while River Plate top the standings with nine points. Fortaleza are coming from yet another defeat, a 1-0 loss to Corinthians in the Brazilian Serie A. After six matches this season, Fortaleza have just one win to show, and they have no clean sheet in the matches. Their only win so far has come against Alianza Lima in this group, a 2-1 that they had to labor through. That came after a 2-1 loss at home to Colo Colo and an away defeat at the hands of River Plate.

River Plate on the other hand are doing well and with a point in this game, they will be through to the knockout stages. They are also doing well domestically and will be very confident going into this game. The Argentine side has so far beaten all teams in this group and head into this game unbeaten in the last three games. River Plate are coming from a 7-0 win over Sarmiento in their domestic league, that being their second straight win, and third in five matches. The visitors have only failed to score in one of the last five matches, and in three of those five they’ve managed two or more goals. A 1-0 loss to Talleres de Cordoba is the only defeat they’ve taken from their last nine matches. They’ve won seven of those nine matches.
