Fluminense will seek to get back to winning ways in the Brazilian Serie A on Sunday when they host their Rio de Janeiro rivals Vasco da Gama on matchday four. Fluminense come into this round in fifth place with six points, two above Vasco who are ninth on the table. Fluminense saw their 100% start to the league season end last time out as they lost a six-goal thriller against Fortaleza. Fernando Diniz’s men have been juggling three competitions since the league season kicked off. Vasco da Gama are back in the top flight following their 2020/21 demotion and have started well by picking up four points from their three matches. They beat Atletico Mineiro on matchday one and followed that morale-boosting victory with another superb result as they held Palmeiras to a two-all draw. They unfortunately lost 1-0 to fellow promoted side Bahia and will head out for a win on Sunday trying to avoid making a habit of losing matches this early in the season. Mauricio Barbieri’s charges will hope playing in the Copa Libertadores in midweek takes the wind out of Fluminense’s sails and leaves them jaded for this clash.
