Gameweek 5 of the Brazilian Serie A will see Flamengo host 17th placed Goias on Thursday.. The hosts have struggled to find their stride so far this term and are currently 16th on the league table with just three points in their first four matches this season. Flamengo lost their last match 2-1 against Athletico Paranaense, which was their third consecutive loss in their opening four fixtures. Across those four matches, Flamengo scored seven and conceded seven, while off their two league matches on home soil this season, Flamengo have won one and lost one. The last time these sides met it ended in a 1-1 draw last year, though Flamengo are unbeaten in their last eight matches against this opponent and will be hoping for another win this time around as they try to get their season on track. 

Meanwhile, Goias were unable to follow up on their Copa Sudamerica win over Gimnasia La Plata last week and were beaten convincingly by early-season high-flyers Palmeiras 5-0 in midweek. The visitors are now in 17th place in the Serie A, level on points with their opponents but with a worse goal difference of -6. Goias have also only managed one win from their opening four league matches, which was a 3-1 win over Corinthians a couple of weeks ago. The visitors have found the net three times this season but have let in nine in that time, which underlines their defensive frailties at this early stage in the season. While having not beaten this opponent in their last eight attempts, Goias could take something from this one, with Flamengo struggling to find their best form this season.
