Flamengo negotiated their way through the group stage unbeaten, though they managed just two wins in six, and they have so far enjoyed a fine season domestically. They beat Cruzeiro 2 – 0 in the last meeting between the two sides and have managed four wins in this encounter in the last seven meetings. Flamengo’s loss to Gremio in their last match saw them relinquish the leadership of Serie A but there’s no ruling them out of contention for both the continental and domestic titles.
